    Getting Started

If you're new to the Heron Academy, then welcome!

During your time here, we will be giving you the resources and training necessary so that you can learn how to setup, run and market your own successful online business. If you already have an established online business, are an experienced marketer, or a large corporation, we will be teaching you ways to further increase your bottom line through the Internet, using the latest industry research to back up everything we teach you.

For people "new" to the field, if you plan on doing Internet marketing part time, then our goal is to teach you how to acquire a nice recurring monthly income that will compliment your main source of income. If you're planning on doing Internet marketing full time, or plan on one day making the transition, then our goal will be to teach you ways to make as much money as possible, all whilst working from home. Enough to hopefully "quit your day job" (as the saying goes), and provide you with more advanced training after that in order to grow your business to entirely new levels.

In this Getting Started post, I want to briefly cover three important topics that you should be familiar with. First of all, I want to explain what you should realistically be expecting during your career in Internet marketing. Secondly, I'll be explaining how this membership site works, so that you can make the most out of it. Lastly, I'll be explaining the ways that you can get started with your training, and hopefully make your first and subsequent sales within the next few weeks.

If you're already an experienced Internet marketer or online business, please skip through to the next section.

    What To Expect

If you're new to Internet marketing, you will no doubt be a little unsure what the field is all about. To put it simply, Internet marketing is what drives the commercial side of the Internet each and every day. If you joined this site looking for ways to "make money from home", then what you're going to learn doesn't consist of working for someone else from home (such as packing envelopes, filling out surveys, doing tasks for another company, filling out database entries, or any other "clerical" based role). What you will be learning is how to setup your own real online business, and market it through the Internet. Examples of Internet based businesses that use Internet marketing to promote themselves include Google, Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, and thousands of other well known websites that earn up to millions of dollars (in some cases billions) each and every year. Almost all of these sites use the same promotional techniques you will be taught through this website. So understand that what you will be learning isn't how to lie to other people to take their money, it isn't a multi-level marketing scheme, it isn't a "get rich quick scheme". You will be taught real techniques on how to become a successful Internet entrepreneur that thousands of people around the world have used to become ethical, multi-millionaires through the Internet. If you're only after an "online job", with a fixed salary, then the field of Internet marketing isn't for you. If you have the hopes of one day generating large sums of money with others working for you, then this site, and its resources, are designed for you.

All business owners and entrepreneurs realize that everything in business involves risk. You don't earn a "salary" when you run your own business, instead, your profits are based entirely upon the sales you generate by selling products and services. If your business sells many products and services to a hungry market, then you'll make a lot of money. If you invest a lot of time and money and don't make any sales, then you will lose money. This is how business works, and every successful business owner from Andrew Carnegie right through to Bill Gates had to take risk to make their respective businesses successful. If you have hopes of making a thousand dollars a week within just one month, as a complete beginner, then you're kidding yourself. A business can sometimes take years to build up. Have no illusion about this.

The beauty of the Internet is that it's allowed many opportunities for "every day" people to become millionaire entrepreneurs. Setting up a traditional bricks and mortor business involves taking high amounts of risk, and is normally reserved for people who already have a lot of investment capital to begin with. These people need to pay money for property, for staff, for equipment, for advertising, and of course, for a good quality product to market. The Internet effectively strips all of these requirements away, allowing you to sell products and services with no upfront or startup costs whatsoever (other than the cost of your Internet connection, and your time). You can of course invest money to make the Internet marketing process quicker and easier, however it's not necessary to do so, and many successful Internet marketers have made huge sums of money without investing a single penny.

At the Heron Academy, you will be taught exactly how to get started promoting products (either your own, or other peoples for a commission), and to start making money hopefully within your first couple of months. Have no illusion however that building up your online business is a slow, gradual process. You should set realistic goals for yourself, such as making $100 a month within the first 6 months of your training. After that, larger goals such as $1000 a month can be set, and then, after a few years, goals of making $10,000, $20,000, even $100,000 a month shouldn't be too unrealistic, provided you've worked hard, have made good choices, and have implemented everything you've been taught.

The vast majority of "newbie" Internet marketers fail. I'd put the figure in the range of perhaps somewhere as high as 95%. This is a huge number of people, and let me tell you why most of them fail. The reason is because they treat Internet marketing as a "job", rather than as a "business". Most people who enter this field expect to be making the same amount of money as they are at their traditional "day job" within just one year. Think about it for a moment. If it were that easy, surely everyone would be doing it? You have to understand, right from the beginning, that no one is paying you a salary. No business is paying you any money to complete any "tasks" for them. If you want a "work from home" job, there's plenty of ways you can do that elsewhere (such as through Amazaon's Mturk). However, I can tell you, you will never make a million dollars working for someone else online. If you want to make serious money, you do so by marketing your own products or service. Don't worry if you don't have a product or service to market yet, as you don't need one. All of this will be explained in your training. All that you need to understand is that what you're learning isn't a job. Instead, it's a way to run an online business, and with that comes risk, and of course, the potential to make a lot of money as well. But it takes time, and lots, and lots of training, and hard work. Never forget that.

If you're of the belief you will be earning thousands of dollars a month within just one month from now, then rid yourself of that belief, as it won't be happening. Invest the time and effort necessary to build your business up, through the training and resources we provide, and one day, eventually, being rich from running your own online business, whilst sipping a cocktail in the Bahamas, won't be an unrealistic goal for you - that is no lie. Effort breeds success. Remember never to give up. Think of failure as education, as opposed to defeat, because I can promise you, you will encounter many failures on your journey to becoming an online millionaire. I did, and so did every other person who now runs a successful Internet marketing business. The question is whether you consider failure as a time to "give up" or as a time to learn, and try harder. With the right mindset, enthusiasm, and hard work, I can almost be certain that you'll become a good Internet marketer in the not too distant future.

    How This Membership Site Works

The membership site is best thought of as being divided into three distinct, important sections. The training resources, the forum, and the community.

First of all, if you are a premium member you can access all of the training material, and other associated resources, from the Home Page of the member's area (you can access this area by clicking "Home" on the upper navbar). By expanding the "Official Academy Training" section you'll be able to access training material in a number of different categories.

If you are a free member you may access ad-supported versions of this training material through the Heron Academy Lab.

The next, perhaps most important section of all, is the forum. The forum is the place that you will be able to read some great tips from other members, receive answers to any questions you have, and also help answer questions that other members may have (and in the process, receive MRP Points). The forum functions well because it is based on a "reputation" system where members can give "reputation" to each other. This reputation is automatically converted into what's called "MRP Points" (you can learn more about MRP Points by clicking here).

Members have incentive helping one another, because they expect to receive reputation when they make an informative post, or answer a question that someone else asks. That is why it's important that you give reputation to other members when they've helped you, or if they've made a post that you find helpful. Failing to hand out reputation when someone has helped you will not give you good standing in the community - and is why it's important to do so.

Each month, you will be able to give out a maximum of 10 reputation points to other users through the forum. You can give reputation by simply clicking on the "Star" icon at the end of the post that you found useful.

The other important thing to understand about the forum is that it's where important announcements are made. Make sure to check the Announcements section for any important updates. The sections on the rest of the forum are self explanatory. Make sure to post any questions you have in the appropriate forum.

There are two private forums that everyone has access to - the Support Desk Forum, and the Paid Premium Consulting Forum.

If you have any issues with your account, or would like to understand how the site works further, then make a post within the Support Desk Forum. Doing so will not cost you anything, and your question will be answered by an Academy staff member.

If you would like to receive a quick, comprehensive, private response to an Internet marketing related question from a recognized expert (by the Heron Academy), then you may pay $75 and make a post within the Paid Premium Consulting forum. Remember that it is not necessary to pay any money to receive answers to your questions - other community members and Academy staff may do this for you free if you post your question in the appropriate forum. The Paid Premium consulting forum is only designed for members that need a fast, definite, guaranteed & private answer to an Internet marketing question, which they do not want to make visible publicly.

The forums are a great place to network with other people, and should be the central point of your training. Get to know other members through them, and be active if you can. Surrounding yourself with other Internet marketers is a great way to build confidence and familiarity with the industry.

The last part of the membership site is the community. As well as viewing the Official Blog for new posts, every member is able to setup their own personal blog through the forum. You can view other members blogs by clicking the Member Blogs section. Blogs are a great way to network with other members, get to know them, and also work on Joint Ventures together. You never know, you may just find your ideal business partner, or partners, right here in this very community. Networking is a great way to increase your standing amongst other members, and to also receive help on new projects you plan on launching.

If ever you get lost or stuck, post a question in the forums, and someone should be happy to assist you. Make sure to also check the Heron Academy FAQ, and also try using the forum search feature to see if your question has already been answered previously.

    Getting Started On Your Training

At the end of the day, your goal is to make money. A huge number of tutorials and resources have been compiled to help you do just that. If you're new to Internet marketing, it is recommended you start off by reading the Journey Into Internet Marketing tutorial series, and also make sure to follow our Four Week Action Plan, designed especially for beginners.

If you're a more experienced marketer, then make sure to take advantage of some of the exclusive resources we offer, such as the Heron Forum Project (which contains a list of thousands of manually checked, high PR, verified, dofollow forums that you can post to). If SEO isn't your game, ask questions within the appropriate forum category, and other members should be more than happy to help. If you're a Premium or Business member, you will be receiving help directly from Heron Academy staff.

Each month, this site will be updated with new material and resources for you to use. Utilize them to your advantage, and you should be significantly increasing your sales.

    To your financial success,
    Steven Heron
